You Just Never Know

Recently, we've had a homeowner really upset at our HOA.  He has stormed in our model home fuming over issues that are really no big deal.  On several occasions I've said "He really has issues."

Turns out he did.  Last Sunday, he committed suicide.  I remember thinking when Brady died, that you just never know what's really going on inside someones mind.  This young man had served in the military for 6 years, and had graduated with honors from a nuclear academy.  His wife is 5 months pregnant and yet he felt life wasn't worth living anymore.

So I referred back to Gretchen Rubin:
It's important to be nice to everyone.

You just never know what's going on in a person's life.  Instead of judging and reacting to a rude person, stay true to your own kindness and be the sunshine for them that day.

Resolutions

I just finished reading an article, about summing up your New Year's resolution into one word. After a little reflection, I've decided my word will be "BALANCE."

After I read the book "The Happiness Project" last year, I realized although I am a happy person, there were things I could work on to take it to a higher level. Working on my project really did make me happier!

This year I want to take the things I've learned and find my center. Issues always come up and I focus me energy on that problem. Too much of one thing (religion, family, work) is not healthy. This year, I hope, I'm going to try to keep a better balance.

Cheers to 2011!
